Evan Healy Skin Care DEMO – Wednesday, Dec 11th, 4-7 pm

Find Evan Healy Skin Care Products at Perelandra in Brooklyn

The Evan Healy Skin Care line was created by aestetician Evan Healy. Her holistic approach to skin care draws from traditional plant lore, aromatherapy, ayurveda, and homeopathy. Evan has borrowed from the wisdom of nature utilizing many certified organic ingredients such as nourishing nut and seed oils, herbal extracts, homeopathically prepared flower essences, pure plant hydrosols, and fresh, steam-distilled essential oils to create her cleansing milks, werums, creams, emulsions, butters, and natural clays.

Her holistic, successful and long-term solution is to support the totality of skin functions using simple plant-based formulations and non-invasive treatment methods.  This encourages the skin, with its innate ability to regulate itself, to breathe.  Evan Healy Skin Care heals, repairs, refreshes, and regenerates a wide variety of skin conditions from oily, sensitive and blemished to dry, dehydrated, inflamed and delicate…and all of the subtle nuances that lay between.  Learn more about Evan’s approach to skin care by visiting her website.

Perelandra’s Picks: Evan Healy Holistic Skin Care

When choosing new items for our health and beauty department, we look for products with high quality ingredients that are made without artificial colors, preservatives or other unnecessary chemical additives. Beauty products made with organic ingredients are a big plus, and we also look for products that are cruelty-free and produced without animal testing.

Perelandra tries products from every line that we sell before we decide whether or not we want to sell it.  We often give samples to our staff members and cosmetologist to try as well, so our decision is heavily based on our experience with the product.

We also aim to offer a variety of skin care lines so that we have products that will meet the needs of anyone who comes in. If you have dry skin, combination skin, oily skin, acne prone skin, sensitive skin, easily irritated/reddened skin, have eczema or psoriasis, we have products that will address your particular condition and have licensed professionals on staff to help you find the right product for your specific needs.

Perelandra is a big fan of Evan Healy skin care. The products are formulated by Evan Healy, an esthetician, and are focused on promoting skin health by supporting your skins natural function and balance rather than interfering with acids or other chemical exfoliants.

They use many organic ingredients in their products and take great care with the manufacture of their essential oils and hydrosols. They smell great (especially the whipped shea butter and the lemon-thyme hydrosol) and have a really great feel on the skin. Our VP of Operations is a huge fan of the tea tree oil cleanser and lemon thyme hydrosol and finds them to be a great match for her combination-oily skin.

Evan Healy

In 1986 Evan trained as an aesthetician in the US, and with a European-based organization already using bio-dynamically grown Demeter-certified herbs, flowers, plants and homeopathic remedies in their skin and body care products.  In 1988 she opened a private practice in San Diego specializing in holistic treatments for skin and body.  Her approach, based on holistic and naturopathic principles, challenges some of society’s fundamental beliefs relating to beauty, aging and care of the skin.  Her philosophy is founded on the premise that the less you interfere with the skin’s own ability to achieve balance, the better.

Her postgraduate work has included in-depth study with European aromatherapits Malte Hozzel, PhD and Deitrich Gumbel, PhD and in the US, aromatherapist Kurt Schnaubelt, PhD.  She is a student of Dr. Vasant Lad of the Ayurvedic Institute, Albuquerque; she has traveled to India to study Ayurveda in its birthplace.  Evan is a graduate of the International Dermal Institute, Los Angeles, and has a diploma from the British Institute of Homeopathy, Bach Flower Therapy.

In 1999 she co-founded the EvanHealy brand of skin and body care products featuring simple plant-based, certified organic ingredients.  She sources plant material directly from snakk, regional farms in various parts of the world:  a widow’s group in Ghana provides her with raw, unbleached shea butter at fair-trade prices; family-owned farms in Washington, Oregon and California are sources for organic  hydrosols and nourishing plant, seed and nut oils, and self-governed winen’s cooperatives in Morocco are responsible for sustainably harvested argan oil.

Focus on Natural Treatment Options for Skin Conditions: Eczema

Eczema is a general term for any type of dermatitis or “itchy rash”. There are several skin diseases that fall under the umbrella of “eczema”. A partial list of eczema type conditions includes:
All types of eczema cause itching and redness and some will blister, weep, or peel. Low humidity, cold temperature, and use of harsh soaps or excessively hot water can all cause dryness and aggravate eczema. Certain foods can trigger or exacerbate eczema in people who have a genetic tendency for allergies. Cow’s milk, egg, soy, wheat, peanut, nuts, fish and cashews are the most common foods that can provoke a flareup of an itchy eczema rash. The symptoms may occur within an hour of eating the offending food, and the rash may last for days. Milk, eggs and peanuts provoke flareups of eczema in babies as young as 4 months old.
Eczema manifests on the skin as red, itchy rashes that become blistery, scaly, swollen, or scabby because irritation like that caused by scratching. Gentle soaps should be used for cleansing that will not over strip the skin or cause irritation. Avoid SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) and all related ingredients; artificial fragrances; wool; polyester; and harsh exfoliating scrubs such as those with crushed walnut or apricot as the rough, uneven texture of the grit may cause micro tears and introduce bacteria. In cases where the surface of the skin has been compromised or broken by scratching or contact with a rough surface, apply anti-bacterial and anti-fungal neem oil to the affected areas to encourage healing and prevent secondary infection.
Suggested treatment options for eczema that we stock here at Perelandra are:
Vitamin E oil or lotion
Argan oil or lotions that contain argan oil

Calendula cream (check out our Baby section!)
Dead Sea salt baths
Coconut oil (can be used alone or as a carrier & mixed w/ lavender, neroli, rose otto, Roman or German chamomile, or
rosehip oil)
Aloe gel

Emily Skin Soothers
Dado Sens Body Balm
Neem oil
The entire Seaweed Bath Co. line
Colloidal oatmeal bath

In cases of extreme dryness, affected areas can be pre-treated with almond oil or grapeseed before bathing with warm (but not hot) water to avoid stripping away vital moisture.
