Safety measures we're taking due to the Coronavirus outbreak

Dear Customers,
We are closely monitoring updates from the CDC and the New York City Department of Health regarding the coronavirus outbreak. We wanted to let you know about the safety measures we are taking in order to protect our staff and customers from unnecessary risk. Here's what we're doing:

All customers are required to have on a mask or other face-covering that fully covers nose and mouth, at all times, when inside Perelandra. If your mask is pulled down under your nose or mouth you will be asked to pull it up and ensure it remains that way through the duration of your shop. We also require all customers to use the hand sanitizer we provide at the entrance or put on a fresh pair of gloves (that we will provide) as you enter the store.

While we have always maintained a comprehensive daily cleaning protocol, we have increased the frequency and scope of our regular cleaning and disinfecting measures. This includes disinfecting all door handles (including the freezer doors), shopping basket/cart handles, cash registers and pin pads, bulk room scoops and lids and all other frequently touch points at regular intervals throughout the day.  As of 3/17/20, all bulk items in scoop bins will be packaged for purchase. Only items in gravity bins will be available for self-service, and the handles are being disinfected at regular intervals throughout the day.

To improve ventilation, we installed 2 Carrier Opti-Clean Dual-Mode Air Scrubbers, commercial air scrubbing machines equipped with Merv-7 rated filters and HEPA filters with the capacity to filter all of the air in our space 3 times per hour, in order to optimize indoor ventilation. We've also replaced the filters in our HVAC system with Merv-7 filters.

We are limiting the number of shoppers we permit in the store at any given time in order to facilitate appropriate social distancing. We appreciate your patience, and ask if you are purchasing prepared foods to consider ordering online for curbside pickup!

We have temporarily closed our hot-food bar. We are making hot soups and hot sandwiches to order, Monday-Friday from 8am-3pm. Hot foods are no longer self-service. We are making prepared foods for our grab and go case.  Additionally, we are now individually wrapping all items in our pastry case. Our beverage bar is no longer taking reusable cups and the beverage bar is open 9am-7pm.

We are requiring all staff members to wear masks at all times, to complete a health assessment upon arrival to work, wash their hands immediately, and to stop at regular intervals throughout the day to wash hands. Hand sanitizer is placed in workspaces around the store for staff use. All cash registers are regularly disinfected, and cashiers and those working in food preparation are wearing disposable gloves. We are encouraging customers to use cash-less payment methods. We have plexiglass barriers in place at our cash registers, social distancing indicators in the check out line, and are appropriately spacing cashiers.

Staff have been advised to stay home and seek immediate medical care if they are not feeling well. We have made a temporary adjustment to our staff paid sick leave policy in order to allow any staff member that is feeling ill to take advantage of paid time away from work regardless of whether or not they have time available in their bank of sick leave hours.

We are continuing to get our regular daily deliveries, but certain items, including hand sanitizer and some cleaning products, have been unavailable. We are working with our suppliers to replenish our stock as soon as it becomes available. Additionally, we are ordering extra toilet paper and other household essentials to ensure their availability.

We offer online shopping services with home delivery to any address in Brooklyn through our website and through Instacart. We've offered these services for many years and we encourage you to utilize these options. All deliveries from Perelandra directly are now no-contact, which means that our delivery driver will not bring deliveries into your home. He will leave them at your door and contact you by phone to alert you to the delivery.

We appreciate your kindness and patience as we navigate this challenging situation. The health and safety of our team and community is our top priority. Please take good care of yourselves, be kind to one another, and don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions or concerns. Call us at 718-855-6068 or email us at [email protected].
